À la vôtre, santé,
et bien plus encore…
To our beloved friends, neighbors, and colleagues who have provided us with the opportunity to share our vision of wine service and hospitality over the past 18 years at Red & White -
In July of 2008 we opened our doors for the first time to the public. The vision has always been a simple one, to curate an alternative selection of wines, and to offer a different narrative than the mass market wines that are in existence. We have always been committed to the process of vetting products based on a straightforward notion that includes gaining knowledge on how farmers treat their lands, seeking out those who possess a great respect for the Earth, who eschew the use of chemical herbicides and pesticides on their property, who utilize indigenous yeasts for their fermentations and who had the notion and wherewithal of observing and guiding in the cellar, with the hopes of producing soulful, often times masterful wines, with no additions or takeaways. In this process we have come to greatly admire wines that draw us in with their keen aromatics, that offer textural nuance and varietal integrity and which bestow the power to ignite a thirst quenching response to dive back into the glass again.
Food and wine for us are, above all else, a simple joy to share and to consume with others. This ritual has an incredible power to transcend, an ability to transport to another place and time, through the magic of our senses, with the aid of conversation, camaraderie, laughter and often tears. These moments produce memories of which we have countless numbers to reflect upon and cherish. For that, we are grateful. We are humbled by the amount of support we have received throughout our journey and cannot thank everyone enough. It has provided us with the courage, determination and dedication to continue for all these years.
With that being said, we are writing this to let you know we will be concluding our last service at Red & White on October 19th. Everything is cyclical in life and this moment is necessary for all of us to embark on a new journey, a new beginning, taking all that we have learned, experienced, admired, and respected to help build something new. The fire still burns and we are encouraged that a light still exists to guide us….
In these next few weeks, we invite you to find a moment to come and celebrate with us, and we look forward to sharing some food and wine on our little cozy corner at Milwaukee and Oakley. For those of you who may not be able to make it, just know that we wish you were here.
With love,
